In early 2020, the World Economic Forum chose the theme "Sustainable World" to hold in Davos, Switzerland. This is also the theme that runs through the new decade for both individuals, businesses and countries.
At first glance, the topic of this article seems unrelated, even contradictory, but in fact in the next decade it will be very relevant. Sustainable development was previously understood as values that do not change over time, kept throughout the process of formation and development.
However, sustainable development in the current era is understood as we always adapt to the constant changes around, even sustainable development is broadly understood as not harmful to the environment, to nature or to the environment. everything around us is living.
During the past decade, when all the media talked about the 4.0 economy, instead, the new decade was a decade of sustainable development with many changes in thinking and lifestyle of people. individual as well as society.
From personal change
In the community, people have mentioned a lot about limiting the use of plastic, or the trend of using environmentally friendly items. Because of this, the awareness of the whole society has been raised to a new level. This "eco-friendly" concept has penetrated deeply into daily life, from eating, drinking, wearing, staying, traveling, living.Where to go in daily life, the use of glass cups, straws paper, stainless steel, bamboo ... is nothing new, especially the consumption trend of young people.
It is common for young people to go out on the street with a glass or stainless steel water bottle in hand. Even in some F&B businesses, this trend has also started, such as Highlands, McDonalds, Phuc Long, etc. To bigger things like taking public transport, electric cars, using solar hot water. sun, using solar cells, clothes made of natural materials, ... more and more popular. And many people are surprised that some supermarkets in Vietnam have begun to limit the use of free plastic bags, instead encouraging consumers to use reusable woven bags.
...to the change of family and society during Tet holiday
Tet this year is no exception. Visiting grandparents, ancestors, or the concept of hometown has also gradually changed very clearly. Young families have begun to celebrate Tet away from home, to take advantage of the long holidays to travel, enjoy time together and especially return to nature.
Tet is a time of reunion, reunion, sharing together; Therefore, where this criterion is met, it means that we will celebrate Tet together. Over the past many years, my family and I personally no longer have the concept of "going home to celebrate Tet", but instead we can go back to our hometown anytime we want, and not necessarily. is Tet.
We used the precious time of Tet to go to far and long places to have enough time and space to discover new things outside the world. It is not too difficult for us to see a lot of people using Tet to go to the gym, to jog, to swim, and to focus more on health issues, rather than sitting around drinking and congratulating each other on Tet. More and more grandparents have been sent abroad by their children and grandchildren to enjoy Tet, rather than just staying at home to welcome guests.
The tray of rice on Tet holiday is less and less, instead, the quality of the meal is taken care of, with many more special, delicious and nutritious dishes. These are some signs that the Vietnamese New Year has changed compared to the past, with the advent of technology and the concept of life, the way of life has changed.
The change is even more pronounced in the process of Vietnamese families decorating Tet with more nature-oriented items, or using reusable materials. The individual gift baskets or giving each other on Tet holiday are also filled with gifts close to nature and the environment, even the gift basket or the outer packaging is made of natural materials such as bamboo and rattan. …
This is one of the small examples to show that society is constantly changing and moving for the better, and we have contributed to building that. Therefore, we must be proactive in managing change and applying sustainable development thinking to contribute to building a sustainable and better socio-economic development.
...to the change of entrepreneurs, businesses and the economy
Besides, in the new decade, the trend of green and sustainable consumption will surely flourish more and more. Therefore, businesses must also change from thinking, strategy, how to make products as well as how to do business. “Delicious and cheap” may not go together in the near future, especially in the minds of most Vietnamese.
As the 8X and 9X youth gradually become the main breadwinner in the family and decide most of the household spending, and the middle class in Vietnamese society is increasing, the shift to consumption is the top priority. definitely not "cheap" anymore, there are even many thoughts because the goods themselves are so cheap that they don't dare to use them.
The trend of green, clean and organic food is increasingly popular, along with high quality because consumers have more choices. The world is getting flatter, so interaction is easier and easier, so finding "delicious but not cheap" products or solutions is not too difficult for Vietnamese people, especially technology applications are becoming more and more popular. So much easier and more convenient.
In addition, solutions for individuals, families or businesses that are oriented towards friendliness, convenience, and environmental protection will be further enhanced, because shopping trends and consumer experiences have changed. change. Products that are not environmentally friendly will soon be replaced and eliminated.
Moreover, in the top 5 business trends in 2020 voted by Inc Magazine in the US, consumers tend to choose businesses with green products and sustainable development.
It is no coincidence that the United Nations has promoted its sustainable development program (SDGs) with 17 very clear criteria for businesses. The world's leading enterprises such as Nike, Walmarts, Unilever, P&G… always attach great importance to this goal, and they always consider it a top priority in their development and growth, rather than a revenue target. or profit.
In developed countries, if the products or services of businesses are infringed on the content of sustainable development, consumers will boycott immediately. There are still limitations in implementation because businesses have to balance the problem of benefits and costs, but it is certain that people's awareness has been raised significantly.
In such a trend, businesses and especially business owners, must start changing their thinking first. That is, the thinking of building and developing businesses must be sustainable, products must be environmentally friendly, green and from there the business community must be truly sustainable. Enterprise strategies must change, and must focus on the user, especially the user experience.
The trend of applying user experience (Customer Experiment - CX) has started in Vietnam, from The Gioi Di Dong, King Mattress, Golden Gates... and is spreading more and more, and CX will be the keyword in 10 years As long as there are products that customers need everywhere, with similar product quality, service quality is the key word.
The economy of knowledge, services, and technology will determine many things for businesses in the next 10 years. Vietnam has a lot of advantages in this regard, as we are a latecomer in the industrialization period, but the strength of knowledge will help Vietnam take off in the next 10 years.
The world has changed, Vietnam has been changing, what about you?
